Designer and Professor: curiosityHQ and University of South Carolina School of Visual Art and Design

What are you working on right now?

Poster designs for clients in my studio curiosityHQ; preparing talks to present at a few upcoming events; and two grant projects funded by the University of South Carolina.

Who is your ideal client?

I love a communicative client who is not afraid to think differently with me.

What is your big picture vision for your business?

At curiosityHQ I want to keep doing the work I believe in, supporting local small businesses and working with national clients. We are currently working on our big dream at the University of South Carolina School of Visual Art + Design developing a student run design center, "The Design Studio" on campus.

What is a common misconception about your work?

That the computer does all the work, or that designers can just "whip something up real quick." When done correctly, design anticipates the needs of the user before the user even knows there is a need.

What podcast should everyone listen to?

Stuff You Should Know + This American Life (and oldie, but a goodie)

What is your guilty pleasure?

"Trash" TV and Young Adult Fiction

Why femme x Columbia?

Femme X is forward thinking and creating a culture of strength and support for women here. It has the juice and it's the just the kind of vibe that we need.

How do you describe femme x to others?

Powerful, fun, supportive, and vital to the city. Femme X is like going to your best friend's house if your best friend had a beautiful turn of the century pink southern home with a bar, tons of rooms, and everything you need to get sh*t done.

If you could re-read a book for the first time what would it be?

milk and honey, by Rupi Kaur

What is your favorite femme x amenity?

The quiet space <3

What is your best piece of business advice?

Lean into the fear of starting something new or sharing a part of your story—it'll be worth it.

What does your ideal Saturday look like?

A long run, time on the water, cocktails, good food, and family.

Do you have any passion projects outside of your job?

No; Everything I do is a part of everything else.

Who is your biggest inspiration?

Friedl Dicker-Brandies, and my daughter.
